INTRO. If you're reading this, you've probable just downloaded my 'Toy Story 2' desktop theme for Windows. Just want to run you through a few of the basics here. First, you must have Windows 95 with Microsoft Plus or Windows 98 to run this theme. If you need an alternative theme utility, there are quite a few available for download on the internet.
You're already through with almost half the job - you've unzipped the theme. Now you need to copy and paste the 'Toy Story 2' folder and accompanying theme files into your themes directory. For most people, that is C:\Program Files\Plus\Themes. Next, open your theme utility (probably located in your Control Panel) and select the 'Toy Story 2' theme that fits your screen resolution.
STARTUP & SHUTDOWN SCREENS. If you want o complete the look of the theme, you'll need to install the custom-made 'Toy Story 2' startup and shutdown screens I've included. Unfortunately, these cannot be programmed into the theme file, but they are fairly easy to install manually.
First, you may want to backup your original startup and shutdown screens. You can do this by simply changing their names. The startup screen is located in your root hard drive directory (probably C:\). It's called 'logo.sys'. If you rename it something like 'logo_b.sys' or 'logo.bak', it will be safe in case you ever want to restore it. Or you could simply move it to a folder you'll remember. The two shutdown screens are labeled 'logos.sys' and 'logow.sys', and they are located in your Windows directory (probably C:\Windows\).
You'll find the new screens in a sub-directory in the 'Toy Story 2' folder marked 'Toy Story 2 Logos'. Open the folder and copy the file marked 'logo.sys'. Then paste it into your root hard drive directory. Then go back to the 'Toy Story 2 Logos' folder and copy the 'logow.sys' and 'logos.sys' files, and paste them into your Windows directory.
Or you can use a logo screen utility, which is even easier. They are available to download at several locations around the internet.
SCREENSAVER. I was unable to find a good Toy Story screensaver for this theme that didn't enlarge the file too much, so I've come up with something of a substitute. Windows 95 and 98 come with a screensaver that's labeled '3D Flying Objects'.
To set it up, go into your Display utility, where you usually set your screensaver, and select '3D Flying Objects' Then click the 'settings' button. From the menu, select 'Textured Flag', and hit the 'texture' button.
From there, you'll be able to browse your files for the desired graphic to put on your textured flag. I have included a graphic expressly for this purpose, and it's located in the 'Toy Story 2' folder. It's labeled 'Screensaver.bmp'...you can't miss it. Select that graphic, and your makeshift screensaver is all set.
MISC. That's basically all you need to know. I may update this theme as more material becomes available. Make sure to go see Toy Story 2 while it's at the theaters - it's well worth it.
